Things That Used to Be Here

Back Home

That New Thing

(my roommate said these look like they're from the 1980s)

Recently I was given a lovely 35mm camera by my dear boyfriend, Chris Luessen of Switch Out The Sun.

Since then I've been having a lot of fun. I've never so much as dipped my toes into film photography before, so it has been an unpredictable but exciting experience. It's good to take a break from the things you're used to and try something new. What is life without challenges?

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Woman

at the opening of PUSH, with my video piece, "Always On My Mind."

Thanks to everyone who came out, it was a wonderful opening show for a beautiful new gallery.

Opening Tonight

The Robert Turner Student Gallery will open for the first time with the show PUSH, a juried exhibition of student work, tonight from 7-9 PM. I'll have two prints and a video piece in the exhibition, along with some twenty-odd other students. Check it out?

Also showing tonight in Alfred is an exhibition of work by faculty member Fred Tschida in the brand-new Turner IV gallery, behind Harder Hall, near the wood kilns. It's sure to be good - bring a sweater.

Peeping

Finished my first screenprinted yard of fabric today! This will probably be used to make a skirt, but I may print more for funsies.

Things have been busy here. Hula hooping, swimming, exploring, and late nights. Once I find a scanner there will be much work to show. There are already lots of stories to tell.

Doing lots of linocuts when I'm not teaching in our very woodsy studio. Here's one.

Hope you're well xo

Hey boys and girls,

I started a website up.

Mostly shows finished series as a kind of clean-cut presentation of myself to the world at large. Not as quick and dirty as this blog.

But I still plan to keep this up to date so don't you worry. There's still plenty of quick and dirty to go.

Wall Installation

Finally finished the centerpiece of my work for Artist Multiples.

8' x 4' Luon board with my A.B. Dick postcards manipulated and applied to the surface.

Also includes nails, yarn, photographs, and watercolor paint.

The subject matter surrounds the breakdown of family farms, especially the deterioration of family farms in Western New York, due to industrial farming. Through my research into the topic I found out about irrigation circles, which are used by industrial farms to create fertile farming areas in unnatural environments that would normally be inhospitable to crops. The circles on my wall reference aerial views of industrial irrigation circles. The small photos inside of the "frames" are photographs that I have taken around Western New York of small family farms, focusing on the areas where deterioration is most evident.
